From Greener Packaging Magazine (Durable & Responsible) – “Many are not aware polystyrene (EPS) packaging is recyclable and is being recycled successfully by businesses and consumers across the United States. The 2010 Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) Packaging Recycling Rate Study was conducted by the EPS Industry Alliance (EPS-IA), formally known as Alliance of Foam Packaging Recyclers (AFPR).”
EPS recycling is definitely growing. EPS is approximately 50% of all post-use polystyrene recycled in the United States.
The EPS industry has worked diligently in order to make recycling easier for the consumer. The most significant and visible benefit to recycling is to reduce litter, but beyond that, the ability to reintroduce recycled EPS back into products to enhance ‘Sustainability’ is immensely beneficial to the manufacturer as well as the consumer.
Consumer drop-off locations are listed on the EPS Industry Alliance (EPS-IA) website.
A list of national large-volume recyclers is on the EPS-IA website as well.
